The sacredness of the human being

Share this article:

We live in an era in which it seems that the sense of sacredness of the human being as a unique and unrepeatable person has disappeared and this is even more reflected in innocent beings such as children. We need the courage and the will not to lose heart and to put opposing elements into circulation to counteract this drift, in the age-old struggle between good and evil.

In this regard I want to tell you a personal anecdote. A few days ago my friend Raymond Bahati (originally from Congo, degree in psychology in Milan, intercultural educator, musician, composer and choir director, member of institutions for dialogue between peoples) phoned me with whom I have already collaborated on stage in two recent events. He says to me: “Sorry to tell you at the last minute but I have an emergency. Tomorrow morning there was a ten minute gap in the schedule of an event entitled "Voices and colors of hope" that I organized with the Municipality of Lecco in Piazza Garibaldi for elementary and middle schools. There are around nine hundred children." When he told me I felt a mix between joyful amazement and fear, mindful of the fact that, from my experience in the field, outdoor shows are rather dispersive and less effective, due to my methodology which is interactive and requires a certain concentration on the part of the participants. Imagine with so many wild children and teenagers...

I immediately consulted with my daughter and my granddaughters who gave me successful input. Now that's teamwork!

It was a lesson for me. Put your fears aside (the night before the event was a little rough for me...) and throw yourself in with confidence. It was nice to see firsthand how instinctively receptive children are in welcoming those currents that contribute to their physical, emotional and mental development. Their tanks fill with energy and their laughter and singing are an explosion of life, so necessary for everyone especially at this time. The energies that have been accumulated within them overflow and need to be shared with others. Children's happiness has no time and no space, or rather, it has the present as the only time and presence as the only space.

We all know instantly, since we are children, what sensation or emotion we are talking about when we experience that sense of well-being, satisfaction, even pervasive and serene joy, which we associate with the term "happiness".

Here is an extract from a video that shows one of the performances done with the children
